RUM ROADSHOW
To help you in the creation of your entry, join our Rum Roadshow (details below) throughout June
and gain beneficial insight from our brand ambassador that can help elevate your serve.

Be sure to submit your entry by JUNE 30TH 2022.

ACTIVATION PERIOD
To boost your chances of being shortlisted for the regional heats, throughout the pivotal
rum months of July and August, we want to see you get behind your serve and activate
this in your venues. Whether this is to celebrate Jamaican Independence Day or a Carnival season special. The more you uplift sales of the Appleton Estate portfolio in your venue and showcase your serve via social media, the better your chances of being shortlisted for the regional heats.
SHORTLISTING
At the end of the activation period participants will be requested to share details on how they have uplifted sales, and promoted their creations. This is not mandatory however it does contribute 50% of the shortlisting judging criteria.We will shortlist 8 entries per region to move forward to the next heat.
Successful entrants will be informed on SEPTEMBER 14TH 2022.

REGIONAL HEATS




We will shortlist 8 entrants per region (North UK, Central UK, South UK & London) to present their creations to a panel of prestigious judges from the Rum world. Each shortlisted entrant will have 8 minutes to prepare and serve both drinks. In this time entrants will also need to share the inspiration behind their serves and how they have activated since entry.





One winner will be selected per region to proceed to the final







FINALS




In a twist to the journey each regional winner, will be joined by one 'wild card' selected by world-renowned Master Blender Joy Spence. Our 8 finalists will then compete at the Campari Academy in London, UK.





One lucky winner will be crowned and receive the trip of a lifetime for 2 to Jamaica.

Winner's prize:
A 4 day, all expenses paid trip for 2 to Jamaica.

The once in a lifetime trip will showcase the best of Jamaican hospitality, including dining and wildlife experiences alongside experiencing day-to-day life on the beautiful Island of Jamaica.

The highlight of the trip will be an exclusive guided tour of the Appleton Estate distillery by master blender Joy Spence.

  • WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
     Book yourself onto a Rum Roadshow so you can get the best knowledge of Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum and ensure you submit your competition entry before June 30th 2022.
  • HOW DO I ENTER?
     Enter via the links above.

    For the best chance at being shortlisted for the regional heats activate your serve in your venue in July & August. This could be on your cocktail menu or as a special for the month.

    Shortlisting will be weighted towards those bartenders who uplift sales across the Appleton Estate portfolio and who publicise their serve across their social channels
  • ARE THERE ANY RULES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY?
     At the time of entry you must be aged 18+ and be working in an on-trade hospitality venue.

    Enter your 2 serves as detailed above and ensure each serve contains at least 25ml of Appleton Estate 8YO Reserve Rum.

    There is no limit to the amount of ingredients you use in the cocktail, however we encourage simplicity to aid replicability. Any homemade ingredients need to be fully documented in your submission.
  • CAN YOU HELP ME WITH INSPIRATION? The journey starts with Appleton Estate 8YO Reserve - a single estate Jamaica rum, that takes inspiration from the vibrancy of Jamaica, its land and the joyful nature of its people.



    For your first serve we are looking for simple additions that can elevate this rum to new heights. So take a moment to fully relax and experience the 8YO Reserve. The deep copper appearance, the layers of aroma and complex characterful taste that makes this rum so deliciously versatile. A rum that has the depth to enjoy when sipped neat or elevating a classic rum forward cocktail, while being approachable in its mixability. So, if you could add any 2 ingredients to this flavour journey what would they be?



    For your cocktail, dig into the deep links Appleton Estate has with the Mai Tai, let your inspiration stem from here. The Mai Tai was originally created with a long lost ancestor of Appleton Estate 8YO Reserve. This distinctive, rich and complex tropically aged style of Jamaica rum became the heart for one of the most iconic rum cocktails of all time. This is your opportunity take inspiration from the rum and it’s legendary signature cocktail to create your own interpretation for us to take to the world. Don't be alarmed, we're not looking for a twist, instead use the road the Mai Tai has travelled, its flavours, its place in the world today to educate your next step. A creation that nods to the classic, a Mai Tai as we've never seen it before.
  • WHAT IS THE JUDGING CRITERIA (FOR SHORTLISTING)? To move forward to the regional heats drinks will be judged on the following criteria:
    /50 Sales, Social Amplification & On the spot visit (% Sales uplift across all AE Portfolio) ¹
    /10 Meeting the brief
    /10 Appearance, and style
    /15 Approachability, accessibility & Bartender ingenuity
    /15 Appleton character and vibes

     Absolutely, you can book one of the limited places to get your entries shot by our professional photographer. We can also assist in the creation and production of overlay menus and support with additional POS if required.

  • WHEN IS THE WINNER'S TRIP TO JAMAICA, AND WHAT IS INCLUDED?
     The trip is planned for January 2023, however we can be flexible depending on the winner's availability.

    All expenses for 2 guests will be covered throughout the trip and will let you experience the best of Jamaican hospitality including once in a lifetime dining and wildlife experiences alongside experiencing day-to-day life on the beautiful Island of Jamaica.
