  • Where is the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience located? The Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience is located at Siloah, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, approximately 1 1/2 hours from Negril, 2 hours from Montego Bay, 2 ½ hours from Kingston and 3 hours from Ocho Rios.
  • Is there a shuttle service available to and from the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience? The Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience does not provide transportation. If you are hiring a private car, be sure to rely on private drivers that are licensed by the Jamaica Tourist Board.
  • What are the opening hours? We are currently open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9:00am and the last tour goes out at 3:30pm. We are closed on Jamaican public holidays.
  • How long does a tour last? Tours last approximately 1hr 15mins to 1hr 30mins, depending on the group size. Guests usually spend an average of two hours at the Visitor Center.
  • What does the tour include? The journey begins with a cocktail in our air-conditioned welcome center. The first stop is the theatre where guests enjoy a short video on the history of rum and the Appleton Estate. The tour moves outside to the beautifully landscaped grounds where they take a multi-sensory journey from cane to cocktail and discover how we have crafted the Appleton Estate Rums since 1749, including visits to the distillery and aging house and a guided tasting of three Appleton Estate Rums.
  • Do I need to make a reservation for a tour? Reservations are not required but are recommended for group of 15 or more. You may book a tour by calling 876-448-2237 or 876-850-0090 or email appletonrumtour@campari.com
  • How much time should I plan on spending at the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience? Our guests spend an average of two hours at the Visitor Centre.
  • When is the last entry to the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience? The last entry is just before our last tour goes out at 3.30 pm.
  • Can photos be taken during the tour? Photos are allowed, except in the distillery.
  • Is there a restaurant and bar at the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience? There is a full-service restaurant and bar serving authentic Jamaican meals and delicious Appleton Estate cocktails.
  • Is there a gift shop at the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience? The gift shop sells the full Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum range as well as limited edition rums, Appleton Estate branded merchandise and local crafts.
  • What is the cancellation policy for tours? We have a 48-hours cancellation policy for pre-booked tours with lunch.
  • Is the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience accessible to guests with disabilities? All areas of the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience, including bathrooms, are accessible by wheelchair except for the lookout tower and the distillery.
  • Is the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience suitable for children? The Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience is an educational tour that speaks to the history of rum in Jamaica and Appleton Estate's unique rum making process. The tour is more suited to adults, but children accompanied by an adult will be accommodated. Please be advised that visitors under the age of 18 years old are not allowed to participate in the tasting or to consume alcohol.
  • What methods of payment are accepted? Cash in Jamaican and US currencies are accepted as well as Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover card.
  • How many guests can be accommodated on a tour? Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the maximum number of guests allowed per tour group is 24. Tours can go out every 10 mins, so if you have a larger group, the guests can be broken into smaller ones to ensure that all protocols for the COVID-19 pandemic are observed.
  • What protocols have been put in place for the covid-19 pandemic? The Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience is certified by the relevant Jamaican authorities and the recommended protocols for the Covid-19 pandemic have been implemented. Currently all guests must sanitize their hands and have their temperature taken before entering the building. They must wear a mask, covering their nose and mouth while on tour except when enjoying a cocktail, participating in the tasting and while seated at the table in the restaurant. Physical distancing of 6 feet between tour groups must also be observed.
